‘She doesn’t win mother of the year’: MPD says a mom took picture of son holding a BB gun at Mobile school | Mobile County Alabama News
MOBILE, Ala (WALA) – A threatening message and photo on social media got a teenager in hot water for holding a gun outside a mobile school.
Mobile police chief Lawrence Battiste is frustrated with the picture and blames the teen’s mother for saying she shouldn’t have taken the picture at all.
The photo, together with a cryptic caption, caused a social media horror to students and parents in the Continuous Learning Center in Mobile.
“It clearly says ‘everything at CLC with Stick Act is crazy if you want,’ now street terminology means if you act you will get this,” said Chief Battiste.
Battiste said while it looks like an assault rifle, investigators discovered that it was a BB gun.
“Nobody knew until we said this was a BB gun, this was a BB gun,” he said. “That means he threatened the students at the school.”
The picture seems to have been taken on campus in the front pick-up area right next to the sign for the fire brigade road that is not parked.
“What worried us the most was the idea that the teenager’s mother took a picture of him with an assault weapon in front of a school,” said Chief Battiste.
Mobile County public schools wouldn’t confirm if the teen was a student at the Continuous Learning Center, but they say they are investigating.
Chef Battiste says the mom’s excuse is that she didn’t know the picture was going to end up on social media.
“She doesn’t win Mother of the Year,” he said. “My expectation of parents is that they must help us be good stewards of our community, and in this particular case this mother has let us down.”
Investigators say no one was arrested for the post.
